Amigos de Jesús, an orphanage in Honduras, is situated on 200 acres of rural farmland. It was founded in 1997 by a Honduran nun, Sister Teresita, a North American lay couple, Christine and Anthony Granese, and an Archdiocesan Philadelphia priest, Father Dennis O’Donnell. Since then, our community has grown to support more than 60 children on-site at our orphanage and to financially support more than 350 children within various parts of Honduras as well as in Guyana and Tanzania.
The mission is to be Friends of Jesus and, therefore, to imitate the behavior and attitude of Jesus Christ for the children of Amigos de Jesús. The orphanage accepts abandoned, abused and impoverished children with the hope of respecting and enhancing their spiritual, physical, emotional, social and intellectual growth within their country of origin. They aspire toward self-sustainability for both the orphanage and the children who graduate. They believe they are also disciples of these children and will be humbly transformed by the presence of Jesus Christ in the children.
Sponsoring a child is one of the most direct ways you can change the life of a young person in need. Children in Honduras, Guyana and in Tanzania need your help. By sponsoring a child, you become their “Padrino” or godparent. Your annual $300 donation goes directly to that child’s daily needs including education, books, food, clothes and medical expenses. Every year you will receive two letters from your child with a recent photograph. You can correspond with your child through our US office and get to know them as they grow and benefit through your generosity.
